
In a fantastic achievement for Canford Bowling Club, the Ladies’ team secured the Division 2 title in the 2024 season, earning their promotion to Division 1 for the upcoming campaign. This success marks a major milestone for the team, reflecting their hard work, determination, and growing strength in depth.
A Season to Remember
The 2024 season saw Canford Ladies put in a series of dominant performances against tough opposition, including Kingswood and Hanham B, Portishead RBL B, Begbrook, Long Ashton, Bristol, Ardagh, and Henleaze C. Their impressive consistency throughout the campaign ensured they finished at the top of the table.
Key victories included:
- A commanding win over Kingswood and Hanham B, showcasing the team’s tactical skill.
- A hard-fought battle against Portishead RBL B, proving their resilience under pressure.
- A crucial match against Henleaze C, in which Pat Cracknell’s last bowl secured their promotion.
Honouring Lorraine Dunsford
This season was also one of great sadness for the team, as they tragically lost long-serving Ladies’ captain Lorraine Dunsford midway through the campaign. Lorraine’s leadership, passion, and dedication to Canford Bowling Club played a huge part in the team’s success over the years. She is terribly missed by all at the club.
As the team moves forward into Division 1, they do so in Lorraine’s memory, grateful for everything she contributed to the squad.
Looking Ahead: New Leadership & A Bright Future
With promotion secured, Tina Peear will step into the captain’s role for the 2025 season, leading the team into this exciting new challenge. Her experience and enthusiasm will be key as Canford Ladies take on stronger opposition in Division 1.
The team’s success is also a testament to its growing strength in depth, with more players stepping up and contributing to the club’s achievements. This depth will be crucial as they aim to compete at a higher level next season.
